Hi, it’s a pleasure to meet you!

My name is Karyn Shalda, and I’m so glad you found my site. It is my sincere hope that you will find peace, comfort, answers, and fellowship here.

About Me

I am follower of Christ doing my best to be a good and faithful servant. I am not perfect, but I follow the One who is. I am the blessed wife of a strong and sensitive husband, a writer, artist, flutist, and food enthusiast. I spend my days reading the Word of God, sharing what I’ve learned with others, volunteering my time, and doing what my Creator has called me to. I love tea, comfy blankets, dogs, autumn, and watching Jane Austen and Ghibli movies!

Why did I start this blog?

The mission of this blog is simply to help people love one another better, in the name and way of Jesus.

Growing up, I often felt overlooked and unheard. I felt out of place, awkward and discouraged. That’s all changed, thanks to my Savior! Now I live in confidence of good things to come, feeling more myself than I ever have because my worth lies in His eyes. This blog is about navigating this crazy world at the steady and sure side of God, understanding His holy character, and seeing yourself through the loving eyes of the One who created you.

Why the nautical theme?

Growing up, my family vacations were always by the waterside. “Up North” Michigan was our primary destination, and long hours of my childhood were spent with my feet in the water and sand. Maybe it’s only nostalgia, but being by water - be it a stream, a lake, or an ocean - has always filled me with an inexplicable peace and sense of calm. Nothing makes me smile more than the shine of water through trees, or the crisp line of blue ocean against diamond-white sand. Hand-in-hand with water comes boats and ships; the world of the British Royal Navy circa the Napoleonic Wars capured my attention in high-school and college upon viewing such shows as Horatio Hornblower and movies like Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. Jane Austen films, which are set around this era, only reinforced the love of the time period. In October 2018 I even got a tattoo of an anchor on my left forearm. When I was searching for a design for this blog, it suddenly hit my husband and I - why not use a nautical theme? It fit so very perfectly that I could not have planned it better. Pretty sure God guided me towards those interests for this very reason!
